The Clay Alliance of Greater Cincinnati exhibit All Pots Great and Small at the Middletown Arts Center gallery continues through July 20. On display are 119 ceramic pieces created by 45 members of the organization.

All Pots Great and Small is actually two shows - a show within a show. One section includes 80 items juried into the exhibit, while the other is a non-juried display of 39 small pieces. Small, in this case, is 3 inches by 3 inches by 6 inches, or about the size of a butter box.

The challenge to members was not only to create an exemplary piece to be judged, but also to create something small within given parameters.

The Clay Alliance, with over 140 members, is a nurturing, not-for-profit organization that welcomes ceramic artists of all skill levels. With that in mind, visitors to All Pots Great and Small will find work by accomplished professional artists as well as very talented clay amateurs. Expect to see an eclectic mix in clay choice, firing temperature, and creative style.

Judging the submitted pieces are Gregg Luginbuhl and Sarah Frederick. Luginbuhl is a Professor of Art at Bluffton University in Bluffton, Ohio. He is a regionally and nationally recognized ceramist in pottery and sculpture. Frederick is a ceramic artist trained in the traditional Leach/Japanese way. With early work in low-fire pottery, she has moved through cone 10 reduction and soda firings and back again to low-fire. She finds organic forms and landscape an inspiration for her pieces.
